Alexei Utkin (Oboe)
The name of Alexey Utkin is now well know both in Russia and Europe . His
popularity is equal to the one of The «Moscow Virtuosi» under direction of V.
Spivakov, where Alexey Utkin performs since 1982. The great school of working
with Spivakov which Utkin went through when he became a member of The «Moscow
Virtuosi» after graduation from the Moscow Conservatory, the brilliant musical
education, and his natural gift made him a remarkable figure in the world of
music.
The solo career of the oboist who is universally recognized is
quite a rare case. He performs with such famous musicians as Vladimir Spivakov,
Yury Bashmet, Natalia Gutman, Eliso Virsaladze, Alexander Rudin, Radovann
Vladkovitch, Valery Popov, Elena Obraztsova, David Daniels and many other stars
of the classical stage.
His career is being formed by the numerous
performances in the West in the most prestigious concert halls of the world:
«Carnegy Hall», «Every Fisher Hall» (New York), «Concertgebau» (Amsterdam),
«Palas de la Musica» (Barcelona), «Auditorio Nationale» (Madrid), «Academia
Santa Cecilia» (Rome), «Champs Elysees» (Paris), «Hercules Hall» (Munich),
«Bethoven Hall» (Bonn), where he is frequently invited to perform with most
famous ensembles. Many of his solo programs won attention of recording
companies, RCA-BMG (Classics Red Label) is one of them. Concerts by Bach for
oboe and oboe d‘amour, Italian plays by Rossini, Pasculli, Vivaldi, Salieri, and
also compositions by Penderetsky are among the recordings.
Alexey Utkin
presents the oboe by the famous French producers of the brass musical
instruments known under «Lore» brand for the International congress IDRS
(International Society of oboe players, International Double Reed Society) and
plays one of the rarest instruments in the world created exclusively for him.
It was Utkin‘s historical breakthrough which introduced oboe as a solo
instrument on the world stage. In critics‘ opinion he «transformed oboe, an
instrument of the background, into the hero of wonderful events». Having
courageously started to perform all solo compositions created for oboe he began
expanding the range of the instrument and its‘ potentialities at the expense of
the special arrangements for oboe. The performance of compositions by Antonio
Pasculli – the forgotten composer and oboist of the early 19-th century who was
then bearing the proud name - "Paganini of oboe" – became the bright example of
Utkin’s musical virtuosity. Today the compositions by Bach, Haydn, Vivaldi,
Mozart, Richard Strauss, Shostakovitch and Britten are all in the musician’s
repertoire.
