Nicola Giuliani (Conductor)

Nicola Giuliani is an acclaimed conductor. He studied at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory of Music in Bari, Italy and subsequently attended courses and masterclasses in orchestral conducting, including the Kirill Kondrashin Conductors Masterclass in Holland, the “Pomeriggi Musicali” in Milan and the O. Respighi Academy in Rome with M.Atzmon, E. Erdely, G. Kuhn, N. Samale amongst others.

Nicola Giuliani has conducted, and continues to work with orchestras in Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Holland, Denmark, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, the ex-USSR, the USA, China, Mexico and Venezuela.
He has conducted international tours with various orchestras including, the G. Enescu Philharmonic of Bucharest, the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ukrainian National Symphony Orchestra of Kiev as well as making important appearances at venues, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Herkules-Saal in Munich, the Frankfurt Jahrhunderthalle, the Hamburg Musikhalle, Moscow Dom Music, and the Sala Verdi at the Milan Conservatory of Music.

He continues to collaborate with renowned soloists including Leo Nucci, Fiorenza Cossotto, Chris Merrit, Elena Obrazova, Katia Ricciarelli, Paola Romanò, Boris Petrussansky, Natalia Lomeiko, Benedetto Lupo, Oystein Baadsvik, Julian Rachlin, Martina Filijak, Giuseppe Albanese and Feng Ning.

Nicola Giuliani has also worked for several years as principal guest conductor at the Odessa Opera Theatre and Timisoara National Opera Theatre, where conducting performances of Norma, Carmen, Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida, Trovatore, Un Ballo in Maschera, Nabucco, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Tosca, La Boheme, I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Giovanni and Don Pasquale. He has recorded Liszt's “Dante Simphonie” and the Ukrainian premiere of Bellini's Messa di Gloria with the Kiev Radio Orchestra and Choir. With the same orchestras, Nicola Giuliani has also made recordings of Verdi's Requiem Mass, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Orff's Carmina Burana and Mahler's 2nd Symphony, while he has conducted the Ukrainian National Symphony Orchestra & Choir of Kiev on a CD comprising Stravinsky's Firebird Suite and Aldo Finzi's Psalm.

Nicola Giuliani has also had several of his concerts broadcast nationally, by RAI 3 (the Italian national television broadcaster) - featuring the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra and the St. Petersburg Radio & TV Symphony Orchestra - and internationally by the Romanian national television broadcaster (Rigoletto with Leo Nucci) and the Ukrainian national television broadcaster (Wagner’s Ouvertures).

Nicola Giuliani lectures at the Conservatory of Music "Nino Rota" in Monopoli. In 2008 he held masterclasses for young conductors at the Conductors Institute of the University of Columbia, South Carolina, USA and returned there in March this year to run masterclasses for orchestral players and to conduct a musical concert by Respighi and Rota.

Recently he has conducted the Orquesta Sinfonica de Estado de Mexico, China Radio Symphony Orchestra, Arena di Verona Symphony Orchestra, Moscow City Symphony Orchestra “Ruskaya Filarmonia”, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Janacek Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.
