The subject of "passenger" about the postwar encounter of former uznitsy of Auschwitz and overseer, it would seem, betokened no obstacles with the setting. Nevertheless for any of the Soviet theaters, which interested themselves in opera, could not be it carried out: secret prohibition acted on top. "abstract humanism", this strange to today’s view charge it was contained in the letter, which forbade setting opera in the Prague national theater. In the beginning OF THE XXI century we finally are ready to hear this.

The fact that Vaynberg’s opera is fulfilled for the first time, also, unfortunately, it is regular. It was written on the end of flight of "thaw", to place it in 1970 not there was hope whatever. Yes even today concentration camp on the operatic scene - phenomenon extraodinary. All the more it is important since this sharp theme is developed in the "passenger" without "chernukhi" and naturalism, in it there is much light and lyric poetry. And, most important, it sounds very contemporary, it is possible to listen to it without any reductions to the forty year temporary distance.
