Matt Deely studied at the Motley School of Theatre Design. He was associate to set designer Stefanos Lazaridis on over 20 operas, including Lohengrin in Bayreuth, Faust in Munich, Macbeth in Zurich, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Venice, Greek Passion, Wozzeck and Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Royal Opera House, and The Italian Season at the ENO.
He was set designer for Rigoletto (Korea National Opera in Seoul), Crime amd Punishment (Theatre of Musicals in Moscow; Golden Mask Award Nominee), iTMOi (Akram Khan Company), Symphony no.9 and Romeo and Juliet (K-Ballet in Tokyo), The Moon Opera and An Individual Soliloquy with Yabin Wang Beijing.
Collaborated with designer Kimie Nakano on 2 Graves by Arts Theatre, Pas, Pas moi, Va et vient by Beckett in Lyon, Petra von Kant at Southwark Playhouse, 4 Seasons / Adam Zero in Stadttheater Bremerhaven.
His video art work includes M Dao (English National Ballet), La nuit du train de la voie lactée in Paris, The Little Prince by Les Grandes Ballets de Montréal.
He was an art director of the Tor Hill at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, associate set designer on The Master and Margarita by Complicite and Les Troyens at the Royal Opera House. Assisted Deborah Warner and Chloé Obolensky with the set designs for Fidelio at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
