Evgeny Brazhnik graduated from the Saint-Petersburg and Ural conservatories. At the beginning of his professional career he spent eight theatrical seasons at the podium of the Sverdlovsk Musical Comedy Theater. From 1991-2006, he served as Chief Conductor at the Opera and Ballet Theater of Yekaterinburg (formerly Sverdlovsk). There, he worked as Musical Director and Staging Conductor for such opera productions as Boris Godunov by M. Mussorgsky, Les contes d'Hoffmann by J. Offenbach, Katerina Izmailova by D. Shostakovich, Betrothal in a Monastery by S. Prokofiev, The Queen of Spades by P. I. Tchaikovsky, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, etc. He has taken the lead in the staging of a number of contemporary composers’ operas, such as The Prophet and The Jester and the King by V. Kobekin,Antigone by V. Lobanov, and The Bestiary by A. Shchetinsky. Since 2006, he lives and works in Moscow, where he serves as Conductor for the Helicon-Opera Music Theater and also collaborates with The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater and Natalia Sats Children’s Music Theater.
The artistic record of Maestro Brazhnik comprises over fifty opera productions in Russia and abroad, as well as a number of concert programs which he has performed with the orchestras of Yekaterinburg, Ulyanovsk, Krasnoyarsk, Washington, Krakow, and Dijon. In the capacity of the symphony and opera conductor he has toured Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, South Korea, China, Spain, Lebanon, France, Israel, and the USA. His CD recordings include Elisir d’amore by G. Donizetti, The Fair at Sorochintsy by M. Mussorgsky, and The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya by N. Rimsky-Korsakov. Mr. Brazhnik used to teach at the Musical Theater Department of the Urals Conservatory, while at present he does so at the A. Schnittke Institute of Music in Moscow.
